Convention Minutes 1918-1961.

The records in this series consist of two bound volumes of the minutes from each general convention of the Women's Missionary Society/United Lutheran Church Women (WMS/ULCW) from 1918 to 1961. Biennial conventions were held until the 1935 convention when they voted to switch to triennial conventions. Minutes consist of the Society officer reports, staff reports, reports from the divisions and standing committees, reports from special convention committees, tallies on elections, presentations of proposed operating budgets, proceedings from convention programs, and convention addresses. The first volume contains special "Convention Number" issues of the periodical Lutheran Woman's Work, the official publication of the WMS/ULCW. These issues were devoted primarily to the convention and had the proceedings from the convention in addition to some regular magazine features at the end of the issue. It should be noted that within this volume the issues for December 1918, January 1919, and October 1924 are regular issues that include some news pertaining to the convention. After the 1937 convention it appears the magazine discontinued publishing a "Convention Number" issue. Beginning with the 1940 convention in the first volume and continuing in the second volume, separate minutes were published by the WMS/ULCA. Minutes published after 1955 reflect the change in the name of society to United Lutheran Church Women. The minutes are in excellent condition except for a loose spine on the first volume. The records are arranged chronologically.
